From One Pair of Glasses to Two Music Icons 🎶👓

One pair of glasses, two iconic music-inspired cards! 🎶👓 See how I stretched the Scrappy Boy Stamps Silly Creature Backpack Add-On Dies to create playful nods to John Lennon and Ozzy Osbourne while mixing and matching some of my favorite dies.

Sometimes my favorite cards start when I stop looking at a die for what it is supposed to be and start wondering, “What else could this become?”

That is exactly what happened with the Silly Creature Backpack Add-On Die Set from Scrappy Boy Stamps. Those oversized glasses immediately got my attention—and before long, I was using them to create two completely different cards inspired by iconic musicians.

🎶 IMAGINE…

For my first card, those big round glasses immediately made me think of John Lennon.

I combined dies from several of my favorite Scrappy Boy Stamps sets to build the scene, including the Stitched Scene Building Dies. The oversized black glasses became the focal point, while the colorful background, clouds, sunshine and musical notes helped bring my little tribute to Imagine together.

Of course, I had to add plenty of white gel pen details. Those tiny highlights and stitched accents really make black die cuts pop!

🦇 From Lennon to the Prince of Darkness

Then I started looking at those same glasses again…and went in a completely different direction!

This time they became the foundation for my playful Ozzy Osbourne-inspired “Prince of Dorkness” card. 😂🦇

I combined the glasses with additional Scrappy Boy dies, added those unmistakable blue lenses, bats, wings and lots of white gel pen detailing. The result is definitely silly, a little spooky, and exactly the kind of unexpected card I love making.

👓 One Die—Completely Different Looks

This is one of my favorite things about die cutting: you don’t have to use a die exactly as it was intended.

The glasses may have started as an accessory in the Silly Creature Backpack Add-On Die Set, but with a little imagination they became:

🎵 John Lennon’s signature round glasses
🦇 Ozzy-inspired violet / blue shades
✂️ A starting point for combining pieces from completely different Scrappy Boy sets

Scrappy Boy Alphabet Dies

Marquee Sign (smaller alphabet)

Wings & Sun Dieset

And now I’m wondering…which music icon should I try next? Can you see my next music inspired card??? 🤔🎸

You can find the Silly Creature Backpack Add-On and lots of other dies perfect for mixing, matching and stretching your stash at Scrappy Boy Stamps.

Thanks for stopping by StampedbyKelly! I hope this inspires you to pull out some of your own dies and look at those little pieces in a completely different way.

Happy crafting! ❤️ Kelly

There’s just something about Craft Roulette that pushes creativity in the best possible way! This week’s parameters came together for a project that is bright, playful, and just a little too relatable.

🎯 This Week’s Parameters:

Bridge Card Design , Salad Colors, Something that starts with “J” and Swipe or Swipes

🃏 Building the Card Design

I started with the bridge card base, which is one of my favorite interactive-style layouts. It creates dimension while still folding flat—perfect for mailing but with that extra wow factor when displayed.

From there, I leaned into the fruit salad color palette, pulling in bright, juicy tones that instantly give off happy, summery vibes. Think citrusy oranges, golden yellow pineapples, strawberry fuchsia, berry reds, and pops of fresh granny-smith apple greens—it’s impossible not to smile at this combination!

🔤 The “J” Element

For my “J,” I went with jammies—because honestly, what’s better than crafting in your comfiest clothes? 😄

I used adorable images from stamp set called PAJAMA POWER available at Pajama Crafter Stamps and paired them with the perfectly fitting sentiment:

“Born to Lounge, Forced to Work”

I mean… if that doesn’t sum up real life, I don’t know what does!

🎨 Swipe Details

The “swipes” bring this card to life. I incorporated:

Rainbow swipes in the background to add movement and energy A coordinating swipe across the bridge panel, tying everything together visually

To anchor the design, I added matted circle elements across the bridge, each highlighting the stamped images and helping guide your eye across the card.

💡 Final Thoughts

This project is the perfect example of how a structured challenge can spark unexpected creativity. The mix of:

dimensional design bold color choices playful theme

…made this one such a joy to create!
