Celebrating International Pi Day on 3/14

I am following up after my LIVE held on Tuesday, 3/14, International Pi Day, where I started to share how to get creative and make something fun and unique to honor the day! And what better and CALORIE FREE way to celebrate Pi Day, than by creating a pie shaker element using the Circle Shaker Basics 1 set from Stamp Anniething?

A pre-recorded video will be shared on the Stamp Anniething Stampers Facebook page shortly which will provide additional details and elaborate more on how to create this shaker element and two 5.5 inch square cards. My initial LIVE was cut short due to a family emergency and appreciate everyone’s concern. We are all good now!

Card using Pie Shaker Element

To get started, you’ll need the Circle Shaker Basics 1 set, some cardstock in your desired color, chipboard, acetate sheet, shaker bits and liquid adhesive. Begin by die-cutting 5 circles using the circle “frame” die from the set – one from cardstock and the others from chipboard. Make sure when gluing together, they match up in size.

Shaker Basics 1 from Stamp Anniething
5 chipboard & 1 card-stock – image shows which dies to use to cut. Keep negative pieces for a future project. Cut acetate sheet with the single die at the top. Later, we will use this to seal your pie and create barrier to hold shaker bits in.

Next, layer of each die-cut with the liquid adhesive and use brayer or your fingers to make sure the layers are stacked evenly and ensure there is no air or separation between layers to prevent your shaker bits from escaping.

Running brayer over each layer helps create a strong seal, keeping shaker fill where it belongs.

Now, add the shaker bits-on top of the cardstock circle in the well you created, as desired – you can add whatever you want to create interest (sequins, clay shaker bits, etc). I used jelly dots. You can use one color or simply mix a variety of colors for a more random look, as I have done here. Once you’re happy with how the shaker filling are arranged, carefully glue the cardstock circle onto the top on the acetate circle to seal.

See the depth created by layering chipboard versus using foam tape.
To create wavy pie crust edge, trace circle onto coordinating card stock. Then cut with scissors a curvy edge about 1/2 inch wider than the initial line drawn. Ink blend edges to look like it browned in oven and finish with white gel pen for added interest.
This photo shows the different pieces that will be glued together to create pie
Fill well with shaker bits after gluing down to free-handed circle you traced and fussy cut to create the wavy outside of the pie crust edge. This seals one side of your pie element. Place something heavy to ensure good adhesion.

Finally, you can add some touches to make it look like a pie – for example, you can cut small strips of card stock in 1/4 in strips either with decorative scissors or your paper trimmer. Consider ink blending the edges to create a visual effect of being browned in the oven. Other options for a decorative edge could be to use the edger dies from Stamp Anniething to make it look more like rippled pastry to form the lattice crust.

Edger dies/see smaller scalloped above
Ink blend your strips and glue down in s lattice design snd then cut off any edges that hang over.
Layer strips and glue down to single frame to create pie top.

And voila – you now have a pie shaker element that you can use to decorate cards, scrapbook pages, or even as a fun little trinket to give away as a gift, attached to a tag, memordex card or mini recipe album! The possibilities are endless, and the best part is that you can customize it to fit your personal style and preference.

So why not get your creative juices flowing and make your own pie shaker element to not just celebrate International Pi Day, but stretch your current die stash and use your supplies in a new, unique and fun ways!?!

Chick-Chick Horray – Brutus Monroe Card Project

Chick Chick Horray Set Featuring Aqua Pigments

This card features a 2×3 stamp set that was one of the Stamps of the Month. You can see the entire set below.

Chick Chick Hooray 2x3 stamps
Available at Brutus Monroe for $4.99

I used a stamp positioner and the Wreath Builder Stencil from Gina K Designs to create the wreath with chick images and a smaller heart stamp to create the front of my card panel.

Images stamped on Aqua Pigment Watercolor Paper and Glossy Accents added to hearts for added interest

I used a rainbow pattern of aqua pigments and colored the images as you would watercolor. I used red to color all the hearts. Once dried, I added a small amount of glossy accents to each of the hearts for added shine and dimension.

Aqua Pigments are very versatile and come in a variety of colors.

To finish my card, I matted several layers and heat embossed my sentiment on a circle punch using black glitter card stock for added interest.

Measurement of my finished card is 5.5 in x 5.5 in square.

  • Watercolor panel – 4.25 in x 4.25 in
  • Black Matt – 4 3/8 in x 4 3/8 in
  • Red Matt – 5 in x 5 in
  • Black Matt – 5 3/8 in x 5 3/8 in
  • Red Card Base- 5.5 in x 5.5 in (I glue a piece of lightweight white card stock or copy paper slightly smaller and adhere only at the top so you can write your message easily inside when using darker card bases.
  • Sentiment heat embossed with Alabaster White on black glitter card stock and matted with red to coordinate with the other layers.

Sorry I’m Choco-LATE! Card Project – featuring Kawaii Cuties by Stamp Anniething

This slimline card was extremely fun to make because Kawaii Cuties from Stamp Anniething has so many images included in each set, slimline cards are how you can have enough real estate to hold ALL THIS CUTENESS!!!!!

I find myself wanting to be late sending all my birthday cards this year, because I am absolutely in love with this sentiment! How cute is the sentiment, “sorry, I’m Choco-late!”

To make this slimline card, I used one of StampAnniething’s slimeline dies. This one is a stitched scallop die. Next, I used a combination of distressed inks from my stash to ink blend the background. I used spun sugar, squeezed lemonade, carved pumpkin, and at the very top I used a little bit of barn door to deepen the pink. I flicked some fresh, clean water onto the panel, as it will cause the distressed ink to react, and leave a bleached effect. I then mounted the ink panel onto a piece of card stock in a darker teal, giving approximately a quarter inch larger than the cut panel. The teal piece measures 3.5 x 8.5.

The first quarter release from Kawai Cuties by StampAnniething has some amazing sets. They are very versatile and you can mix and match on all different projects. This particular card uses the stamp set and coordinating dies from: Life is What You Bake It and I Will Never Dessert You.

I used COPIC markers to color my images. The following combinations were used:

  • Banner colors – blue = FB2, FBG2, B01; pink = FRV1, RV14, RV13, RV10; Green – FYG2, G12, YG01; orange =FYR1, YR16, YR00
  • Chocolates -Anything Chocolate – B66,E79, E77, E74, E71 – add highlights with white Posca Pen
  • Pink frostings -RV10, R81,R83, R85
  • Strawberry, Hearts & Red Icings – R21,R24,R29 / G07 (strawberry leaves)
  • Madellines – Y23, YR21, YR23
  • Cinnamon Roll Frosting – E40, E42, E43
  • Jello – Y13, Y15, Y17, yR27, YR16
  • Teal (dish, cake bows, candles, cupcake wrapper) – B01, BG01, BG49
  • Display Case- C6, C4, C2, C0
  • Cheeks on items- R20 and white gel accents

I heat embossed the sentiment using Silver embossing powder on the same colored card stock I matted my base with to keep everything coordinated. To finish off the card, I created a white card-base to adhere my finished panel to. Finished card size is folded, 3.5 x 8.5. The card-base was made with white 110 pound card-stock cut 7 x 8.5, scored at 3.5.

The Chimney Sweep

I used Scrappy Boy Stamps’ set called Practically Perfect (pictured here) to make this slimline style card.

I used a letter-size (8.5 x 11) sheet of Banana Cream card stock from FSJ/Spellbinders to create my card base. You can modify the size to your preference. I then cut a card front that was a quarter of an inch on all sides smaller than the base in Hammermill 100 lb white card stock. I used 2 StampAnniething stencils and dye-based ink to ink blend my background, which included a citycape with the tops of the city buildings being the bottom third of the card.

On the top half, I made a night sky. I used a circle die to create a mask and then placed the sun ray stencil over top of the mask to ink blend to create additional interest. I removed my circle mask, which left clean paper. I used a light yellow to ink blend the circle to create the glowing moon.

I used 2 characters ftom the set: The Chimney Sweep and the girl with the open umbrella. I stamped both images on a piece of Hammermill White 100 lb card stock. I used my Copic 100 marker to color in the girl with the umbrella, as I wanted to make her look like she was in the shadows. You can use a black Sharpie, too. Color in everything to create a silouette.

Next, I colored up the Chimney Sweep.

  • Skin- E04,E11, E21, E00, R20 and E000
  • Hair – E89, E59,E34 and E57
  • Clothes & Hat – B000,B21, B23 & B26 (dirty them up using various T-family markers)
  • I used the T-family to create soot on his face.

I used some scrap black card stock and stamped the sentiment using Versamark ink and Brutus Monroe Alabaster White embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment.

Lastly, I assembled the card. Hope you enjoy.
